Bespoke Vial Weighing Systems

Labman In-house Vial Weighing Systems

Click to EnlargeWe now house four independent vial weighing machines in our factory that are dedicated vial tare weighing systems. Each system can be loaded with over 1600 vials split into around 30 trays. The robots pull each tray into the system from a stacker house at the side of the system. All of the vials on that tray are then processed before replacing the tray into the stacker and moving onto the next one. The systems tare weigh and weigh each vial twice to ensure consistant and accurate results are reported. All of the vial barcodes and weights are then recorded to a batch output file for further processing and validation procedures. Vials that cannot be barcode-scanned or weighed for any reason are dumped into a rejects bin to ensure that they do not get mixed up with the tray of good vials. Replacement vials are weighed and added to complete each tray. Weights are temperature compensated by weighing a vial of a known weight (or golden vial) at the beginning of each tray. The variance of this golden weight is then added onto the vial weight to ensure values do not wander based on factory temperature variations.

The latest in the line of weighing systems comprises of two picking arms mounted on the same axis, allowing two vials to be picked at once and weighed simultaneously. This configuration allow 2 trays to be processed at once and therefore doubles the throughput of the system.
