Durham University Solar Car Team Visit Labman
Labman is very proud to be continuing our sponsorship of the Durham University Electric Motorsport’s (DUEM) Solar Car project into 2017. This week we had a large number of the team, comprised of students from across the university’s engineering and science department, visiting Labman HQ to get a flavour of what we do.
Here’s DUEM team leader, Toby, giving us his take on the visit.
A student-led, and run, project, the team has taken their solar car across the world, racing in the 2500-mile North American Solar Car Challenge and the 3000km Darwin to Adelaide World Solar Challenge, as well as exhibiting at The United Nations Climate Conference 2016 in Marrakech, the Goodwood Festival of Speed and The London Motor Show. 2017 promises to be an exciting and equally successful year for the team, and Labman is looking forward to being there alongside them.
Labman’s enjoys a great connection to Durham University and several previous members of the Durham Solar Car team now work as engineers at Labman. Having the current members and engineers from the society visiting was therefore a great opportunity to introduce them to who we are, our facilities, and the kind of work we do.
Our ever-popular VR setup allowed the team to drive the solar car around a virtual track, as well as walking in and around some of our future systems. Our extensive factory facilities and manufacturing tools were of particular importance to the team, who are looking to create some of the future components for the car at Labman.
It was great to host the DUEM team at Labman, and we look forward to seeing what 2017 will bring for them. Here’s 15 years of DUEM in 15 seconds:
