A number of positions are available for engineers with a multidisciplinary background in mechanics, electronics and software. The posts range from project support to senior project leaders and will involve either leading or working in a team on robotic and automation projects. The successful candidate must be willing to travel, able to grasp new concepts, integrate themselves quickly and effectively into teams and be able to demonstrate lateral thought.We design and manufacture bespoke automated equipment and as such some of the positions require particular skills. These skills fall into four main categories and you may be proficient in any or all of them.
Project Management:
- Liaising with customers to ascertain design requirements
- Conducting project reviews both internally and with the customer
- Report writing and technical/operational documentation
- Performing acceptance testing and onsite commissioning
Mechanical:
- AutoCAD
- CNC milling / lathe work for component manufacture
- Component design / prototype development and testing
Electrical:
- A/D controllers
- Stepper motor control
- Digital I/O modules
- Optical / inductive / process measurement sensors
- RS232 / RS422/485 communications hardware
- Panel wiring
Software:
- Development in Visual Basic .NET
- Code documentation
- SQL + RDDMS systems
- Serial communications
- GUI design
- System manuals
- Web development

We are specifically looking for people who can score well with the following questions which we would like you to complete concisely and email to us.
- 1.. Do you mend electronic items and have components, soldering irons and esoteric electronic circuits at home?
- 2.. Can you weld or have you welded/braised. Do you have any silver solder or specialist glues?
- 3.. Have you written any programs recently for yourself?
- 4.. Are you familiar with controlling anything from chips or PC's?
- 5.. Do you have any radio controlled devices?
- 6.. Do you subscribe to the New Scientist or any hobby or other magazines?
- 7.. Have you any experience with combustion engines? Perhaps changing cylinder heads or major parts?
- 8.. Have you ever delved into chemistry at home and if so what? Perhaps expanding on what the Christmas chemistry set provided.
- 9.. Do you build models of any sort or do you have a good selection of materials and tools for model building?
- 10.. Do you own a wide selection of tools and if so what strange items have you got? This may include, for instance, ranges of imperials taps and dyes, bearing pullers, verniers or gauges, miniature burners etc.
- 11.. Have you been to Bowes, Beamish, North East Aircraft or the Discovery Museums or any other museums lately?
- 12.. Do you buy off ebay and what's your rating?
- 13.. Are you familiar with Maplins?
- 14.. Do you use shareware if and if so what do you find best?
- 15.. Do you use online forums or newsgroups and which ones?
